- Go NOS as much as you can. Its not easy to acquire (new in the package) OEM parts, but if the opportunity presents itself- go for it!
- Era correctiveness. Never equip an old school frame with new school components or vice versa.
- Brand exclusivity. If the brand was sick in the 80's, it's most likely very rare/valuable today. Stay away from the crap cycles.
- CLEANLINESS! Most of the time I get a bike coated with 20+ years of grime and rust. Roll them sleeves up and go to work. If you can't get NOS, there's nothing wrong with restoration.
